Get My Bag

Questions students ask

From eight batches of MUCM students and their parents. Search or tap a topic.

How much luggage will I actually have?

More than you think. Students in our batches guessed 30 kg and packed a median of 63 kg in 3 cartons. A box of textbooks alone is 22 to 25 kg. Use the estimate with the category buttons for a realistic figure.

Why does it cost this much?

The price covers cartons and packing at your room, pickup, Malaysian export clearance, the sea or air leg, Indian customs clearance by a licensed broker, and Delhivery to your door. The only things outside it are Indian duty on new items, optional protection and storage beyond 14 days.

Is the estimate the final price?

No. The final price is set when the boxes are packed and weighed in front of you on packing day. We count the boxes, show you the weight, and the price follows the same rate sheet you saw online.

Can the price go up after I book?

Only if you ship more than you estimated, and you see that at the scale on packing day. The rate per carton and per kg is fixed by the rate sheet you booked on.

How long does it take?

Sea with your batch: 4 to 6 weeks from packing to your door. Air: 7 to 12 days. The batches page shows the dates for each window.

Can I fly home before the boxes leave?

Yes, most students do. Indian customs allows boxes sent within one month after you land, or arriving up to two months before you land. We store your boxes free for 14 days after packing.

What if I miss my batch?

We can store your boxes in Melaka for the next window (free 14 days, then per box per week), or ship by air now. Message us.

Which documents do you need from me?

Your passport copy, flight ticket, the receiver's address and ID in India, and your signature on the packing list and the broker's authority letter, both of which we prepare. After you land, a photo of your arrival stamp or boarding pass.

Do I have to be at the port in India?

No. Our licensed customs broker files the declaration for you. You or your receiver may be asked for a document by WhatsApp, nothing more.

Will I pay customs duty?

Not on used personal effects: clothes, books, bedding, kitchen things in use, your laptop in use, your instruments. Duty of 35% can apply to new items, a second laptop or a TV, and the receiver pays it if charged. We declare honestly and never promise an outcome.

Do I have to be in my room when you pack?

Yes. You or someone you trust must be there. You decide what goes, we pack it, and you see every box weighed.

Can I decide what gets packed and check what is left?

Yes. Before the first box we walk the room with you and agree the ship, carry and leave piles. At the end we walk it again so nothing is left behind or packed by mistake.

Can I send my laptop, phone, kettle or rice cooker?

Yes. Appliances without batteries are fine. A laptop or phone ships with its battery installed, switched off and declared. Power banks and loose batteries cannot go in the boxes; carry them in your cabin bag.

Can imitation jewellery be sent?

Yes. Real jewellery and gold cannot; carry those yourself.

Are food items allowed?

Small sealed quantities of dry food and spices (under 3 kg) by sea, in airtight bags. No rice, flour, fresh food, seeds or plants.

What can I not send?

Cash, jewellery, original documents, perfume and sprays, nail polish, sanitiser, power banks, lighters, alcohol, tobacco, vapes, drones, bone sets, syringes and chemicals, plants and seeds, rice and flour. The item checker has the full list with reasons.

Can you take my stethoscope, dental kit and books?

Yes. One personal set of instruments, used and clean, and all your books. Dental amalgam capsules containing mercury stay out.

Will you tell me how much my boxes weigh?

Yes, on the spot. Each box goes on the scale in front of you, and the total and your final price go to you on WhatsApp the same day.

When and how do I pay?

20% advance when you book, by DuitNow QR in Malaysia or UPI from India. The balance after packing and weighing, before the boxes leave Malaysia. No cash collection in hostels.

Can my parents pay from India?

Yes. The booking page shows a UPI link and QR with your booking ID as the note. Parents can also message us on the India WhatsApp line.

What is the advance for, and is it refundable?

It holds your packing slot and your place in the batch. If you cancel more than 7 days before your packing day it is refunded less a RM 50 handling charge. Inside 7 days it is not refundable, because cartons and crew are committed.

I left cash in a drawer. What happens to it?

We hand it back to you on the spot. Our team does not pack cash, cards or documents. Check drawers and pockets before packing day.

Can you sell my fridge or cooker?

Not in v1. We can tell you where other students sold theirs in Melaka. A mini fridge can ship by sea, defrosted and dry, but it is rarely worth the carton space.

Where exactly will my boxes be delivered?

To the address and pincode you give us in India, by Delhivery. Check the pincode in the estimate; out of delivery area pincodes take 2 to 4 more days.

How will I find my boxes among everyone else's?

Every box carries your name, your booking ID and a number. Your packing list shows what is in each one. Delhivery delivers only your boxes to your address.

Can my friend and I ship together to one address?

Yes. Book separately so each of you has a customs declaration in your own name, and give the same delivery address. Delivery in India is per box, so there is no saving to lose.

Sea or air, which should I pick?

Sea for two cartons or more and anything that can wait 4 to 6 weeks. Air when you need it inside two weeks or have under 25 kg. The estimate shows both prices.

Is my shipment insured? What if something breaks?

Transit protection is optional at 3% of the value you declare, minimum RM 30, and covers loss and damage up to that value. Without it, our claims policy applies. Either way, tell us within 48 hours of delivery with photos.

What if something is missing at delivery?

Check the box count and the packing list on delivery. Message us within 48 hours with photos. We trace by box number and settle under the claims policy.

I do not need packing, can I still ship?

Yes, if your boxes are our standard cartons or sound double-wall boxes under 30 kg. We still weigh, label and list them at pickup. Price is the same, because packing is a small part of it.

Who deals with Malaysian customs?

A licensed Malaysian forwarder files the export declaration (Customs Form K2) for the batch. You sign a short authority letter. Used personal effects carry no export duty.

Can I track my shipment?

Yes. Every stage from packed to delivered is on the tracking page with your booking ID and the last four digits of your WhatsApp number. Once Delhivery has the boxes you also get their waybill link.

What if I am not in India when the boxes arrive?

Name a receiver at booking. Delhivery calls them before delivery. Boxes may land up to two months before you do.

How do I know you are legitimate?

Get My Bag has moved students' belongings since 2020, starting with MUCM students between Manipal and Melaka. Our Malaysian company name and registration number are in the footer, our Manipal office address is on the about page, and you can message the founder on WhatsApp.

Is Get My Bag part of MUCM?

No. We are an independent service used by MUCM students. The university does not run, endorse or partner with us.

Does MUCM allow you into the hostel?

We pack in your room with you present, like any visitor you bring in. Tell your hostel office the date. For private apartments nothing is needed.
